Cycling in Japan, Kansai Countryside.

It was very early in the morning.
It's 4.30 am.
The sun, shining through the lazy morning and
most people still having a good sleep
As pre-planned a day earlier, I was already
in my thick uniform and glove to cycle around
countryside.

Leaving Fukusaki in a very cold weather, breezing but
very refreshing air and wonderful scenery.

On the way passing through The Kansai Country Club,
few farmers have walking around their fields.
doing their morning vegetables picking.
Even some old people do jogging while
enjoying fresh air and beautiful morning sunny skies,
but the sun still reluctant to show out her face.
The mist was heavy.

This is me, with my "basikal tua" in Japan. Stopped by
at "Jidohanbaiki" for some fresh drink.
You also can buy noodles, cigarrette and other
food starve here.

After 2 hour ride, I reached at an industrial area
in sub-urban of Kansai.
Parking my bicycle at Kansai Sanyo Plant for a
tour around. It was not 8.00am yet and nobody
was around to ask for a guide.
If you cycle on wrongly side of Mount Iimori,
you will end up to a long route back.

I was lost in the countryside and in the hilly road
toward another small town called Hojomachi.

Later, I continued my journey through the Japanese
village and talking to old people about their daily life
and culture which all of them were very friendly.
Even asked for a short cut back to Fukusaki town.

I found the experience was very interesting beside
having my Japanese language much improving.

By evening I was back to my place, Fukusaki-cho,
tired and exhausted with nice memory in mind.

Journey to my old days - Sek Keb Pendek, Jalan Salor

Here is my first school.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendek, Jalan Salor, Kota Bharu.
This is a new look which I took few years back.

In my old days, there was only one single-storey building
with small wooden hut at the backyard.
Now there is new building with a bigger 4-storey block expansion.
Still bordering with rubber estate on the left, right and the back.
Further away from the back of school, there is still a small canal
which used for irrigation purpose. But the water is not too deep
now due to poor maintenance.
In the 70's, we normally spent our time after school by
swimming, skiing and mud-sliding with our hardcore friends
and seniors in this canal. Playing "guli" and "congkak" at the
school backyard. Playing football with the ball made up from
dried rubber molded from the rubber tap. It was much fun
compared with today's gadgets. Kids now spent most of
their lifetime with computer and PS2.

Our village is about a kilometer away from school
and we walked barefooted across the swamp land, rubber estate
and passed through the canal before we reach school. During
rainy season, all our clothes got dirty and wet due to
high tide.Once reached the school, we put on our shoes,
cleaned ourselves and tidy up before joined the class.

Initially I was not enrolled to any school because my mum
was passed away by that time and we had no money.
Even my brothers had to stop schooling half way.
My late father was just a farmer and could not afford to
support all of us. I was adopted few times by other
close relatives. Once by old great uncle then by my late
grandma and lastly by my uncle from my mother side.
Life that time was hard and just enough to support
a very basic daily meals but full of fun.

I was considered lucky as one day, when I was playing
around the school's corridor (as my friend with the same age
were all in the classroom and I got no friend to play with),
one of the teacher called me.
He brought me to the Headmaster and we had a very
long conversation.

Few days later he allowed me in to Standard One
with all the books and stationery provided.
It was already in 2nd term and my first record book
taken from other pupil which left school earlier. Till today
I still remember that teacher's name, Cikgu Jaafar.
I owe him a lot and because of him, I am able to be somebody today.
Thank God.

In the old days, you can make money by helping
others like planting or watering vegetables, tobacco
and harvest in paddy fields even if you are kids.
Planting paddy was not that tough, only that you need
to stand the hot sun and muddy water. There were also
a lots of leeches and water snakes around.
If you are skill enough and hard-work, you can get
RM 1 to 1.20 a day. Your school expenses was only
10 cent per day. You can use the balance for your
books and stationaries.The rest can go to your savings.
But it's depend on the seasons as well.

My secondary school was Sek Men Keb Kota,
Kota Bharu. It was 6 km away toward town.
I used old bicycle to school everyday for 3 years.
Later, I managed to get a good grade in final exam and
was offered to join a boarding school in town.

The rest is a history and life is still going on for GOOD.

Dear friends,
We are getting older by days. Every single day, we travel
through our time and time is passing by without fails.
No matter whether you travel to a very far away
land or be it in short distance to work, your mind could not
do away of feeling missing someone that you love.
Or you are worried something will happen to him,
her or them. You feel that you have not done enough
to show that you love them very much.
This is normally happen to me and might as well you too.
It is a God creation on human being.
You will gain LOVE as much as you give.

And it is getting worse when you are in last quarter of your life.
Love to your family is so much a blessing to compare to other
love. You will feel and enjoy every minute of it. It will shine in
everything you do. it will reflect in your work, it shows in your
tea talk, and will give you sort of happy feeling through your daily routine.
And God has given you a happy family.

Yes there are other loves as well. Love your work, your hobbies,
your friends, etc. Finally try to find God's Love.

For young people, the feeling of love is sort of temporary.
Their life is full of activities and lots of things to go for. And the
side effect of being failed in love is a learning curve. Then it will
come again and again to tougher up their mind and finally they
are able to claim themselves as a man or woman.

But these younger generations seldom fully understand
the meaning of love and unable to look beyond it.
When they are in love with someone, it is hard to let go.
They devote their whole life to their partner and could not
see the other side of it.

It is good when the relationship last forever. But it does not
apply to all of us. The thing might last in short life span and need
to work out again for a new love. But as people said " Love is blind"
then you will not be able to find way out and this will spoil you.
And God's Love will help.

Foods in Penang - "Restoran Tepian Sungai"

Whenever you fly to Penang, on the air, your mind
will splash with all kind of "hottest" foods available
awaiting you once you landed.

Yes, "Nasi Kandar Restaurant" is a most popular
spot among local folks and tourists. Every corner
of the state you will find more than one and sometimes
next to each other. Yet it is "full house" with long Q especially
during lunch time.
Some of the names which is very popular among "Nasi Kandar"
Lovers are Pelita, Kayu, Subaidah etc and most of it operates
24 hours.

But I do not want to tell you further as it is a well known
phenomena in Penang.
I would like to bring you to a new food village site.
It is not new among food lovers here. It is on the mainland
of Penang or "Seberang". People in the island call "Seberang"
for Penang mainland.

"Restoran Tepian Sungai" situated on the roadside village
on the way to Kubang Semang if you drive from Permatang Pauh.
Look at the highway signboard above.

Easiest way to drive here is from PLUS highway at Seberang Jaya
Town. You drive toward BKE Expressway and turn left just
BEFORE the bridge to enter toll gate.
Then turn right under the flyover toward Permatang Pauh.
At T junction traffic light, take left to Kubang Semang.
The place is just 300 meter from here.

It is open daily except Friday.
I advise you to come early around 11 am as by this time the crowd
has not build up yet. By 12 noon, you have to line in long que and might
not find a vacant table to sit.
By 2 to 3 pm, the food is almost finished.

There are a lot of dishes available on self service.
From herbes recipe to hot and spicy curry fish plus
other variety of foods.
From salted fried fish, fried chicken, curry chicken,
"Ayam Kampung", variety of soup mostly curry soup,
veggy, fishball soup, prawn, "sambal belacan, petai, ulam kampung,
pegaga, daun ceylon", etc.

It is not just the food is good, the environment and location of this
place is unique. Under the bamboo trees and next to the small
river that flowing down under. Very cool.
That why its called " Restoran Tepian Sungai",
meaning the restaurant near the river.

I hope that you come personally and you will know
the many taste of it then judge for yourself.

"Welcome to Zhuhai",
read one out of many signboards along the road side
to Zhuhai.
Here are some photos taken during my recent trip to
Zhuhai and Macau. We took ferry ride from Hong Kong
then buses and also by car.

The photo below with a very unique and "rare "car below is taken
from one of my friend's office. It is a very expensive car.

Zhuhai is one of beautiful city situated at Southern China.
Below is a bit of summary from "visitZhuhai" website:-

Zhuhai is situated in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province. It faces Hong Kong on the east across the Lingding Ocean, Macau on the south, Xinhui and Taishan on the west, and Zhongshan on the north. It is 150 kilometers away from Guangzhou. Zhuhai has jurisdiction over Xiangzhou District and Doumen County. Its total land area reaches 1,300 square kilometers.

Zhuhai is a garden-like seaside tourist city, where flowers blossom all year round. In 1999, it was granted “International Award for Best Practices in Improving the Living Environment” by United Nations Center for Human Settlement and was the only winner of the award in China. Besides, it won series of titles such as “Top Tourist City of China”, “State Garden Green City”, “State Environmental Protection Model City” and “State Hygienic City”.
From Zhuhai, we travelled to Macau by road along the seaside.
Very nice panaromic view. We stop few places and also having
our lunch at one of Seafood restaurant facing Souh China Sea.
Such a wonderful view to compare with "hazy" view in some part of
Modern China Cities.

Factory Visit in Foshan

Foshan is growing to become and has been one of an Industrial City
in the middle of Southern China. Most of the population here are
working in various industrial factory such as sanitary products, gourment,
toys, electronics, households and buidings material.

I have visited one of the factory related to printed circuit boad (PCB).
The PCB is normally related to every electrical products which use
PCB assemblies as a based to control or process the function of each
product. To a layman, the PCB is invisible as it is built inside and covered
by outer casing. But to the people who are familiar with electronic and
engineering knowhow, the PCB assemblies is considered a brain to any
design and function of each product and gadget.
On this PCBA, you will be able to see how complicated it has been
done and wired internally or externally via PCB to each components
or processors that control it's product and functions.

This is the factory that produce Bare Printed Circuit Board.
Here you are able to see how they process the raw material
by each step until the final process of finish good that called
Bare Board. Single layer, double layer or multiple layer board.
Silver plating, gold plating, Imersion Gold and etc.
Yes, it is just only the bare board without any electrical component
put on it. There are other companies that will use this board
to put electonics component onto it depending on kind of
products they are going to make. TV, handphone, toys, robot,
Ipod, computers, car, plane, aircraft, shinkansen, or games.
Every single product need to have a PCB.

Once you have visited this factory, you will be able to
imagine the meaning of each step and process done.
It is a kind of very high tech and advance processes
and required a basic electronic and technical knowledge
for you to understand on what they are doing.

You will also be able appreciate the skill and advance

Traditional Tea Sets in Foshan City

Foshan is one of the growing city in China.
This city is situated in Guangdong Province.
To come here, I took a ferry from Hong Kong
at 8.05am. There was a three hour journey
up through the river.

Reached Foshan at nearly noon and having lunch
at one of the finest restaurant in Foshan.
During the city tour, I was attracted by Tea Sets
at one of old man shop.

This old man creatively produce Tea Sets made from
high quality wood. It looked very antique and eye catching.
He also have a lots of design and many collection of
very old sets with big price tag.

Below is some history background on Foshan.

"Foshan City is located in the mid-south of Guangdong Province, the inland of Pearl River Delta. It is adjacent to Guangzhou at the east, to Hong kong and Macao at the south, enjoying superior geographic location. The longitude of Chancheng is 113.3 degrees east, and its latitude is 23.2 degrees north."

" Foshan has a long history dating back to approximately 5,000 years. It gained its name from the three Buddha statues unearthed in this area in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Having a temperate climate with abundant rainfall, it has been a land of fish and rice. Besides fishing and farming, the local craftsmen were also known for their skills in making ceramics. Thriving handicraft industries, commerce, and the arts made Foshan one of the four most famous towns in Tang and Song (960-1279) dynasties. Foshan has a reputation as the home of Chinese ceramic arts, Cantonese operas and martial arts.

On last day, I grabbed few sets of Tea Sets and also bunches of tea with few different flavour.
I could not remember as it was so many types of tea and leaves and places of origin and different
climate as per explain in details by that old man.
I really admire Chinese traditions and history.
It was a memorable journey.

The modern design and outlook is matching the international

There are many accessories available with a lots of branded
items. Most of branded products from Europe normally
manufactured by China companies.
I was in Shanghai in recent month and happen to shop around
with tour guides to their fashion gallery. You will able to get
almost all branded items with cheaper price. And do not feel
surprise as it look exactly as per original.

You will be great to have spent a whole day here.

But do not worry as China is having this event on yearly basis.

From KL to Beautiful City of Qingdao

My flight was from Kuala Lumpur to Pudong Airport Shanghai.
Then to Qingdao Airport situated in north of Qingdao.

I was there to visit one of the metal stamping factory
"Pentair Enclosures" in Airport Industrial Zone.
After a visit, I spent my evening touring Qingdao
town and also have a dinner a one of very famous
seafood in town.

Here are some phote taken in Rennes, France.

Rennes is a city which located in south-west of Paris.
It is an old capital city of Brittany.
Among the famous place is a historical site which
show many grand architectural designs of last few
hundred years ago and some people say it is an old stone
wall building.

There are many students here which study at Rennes
University. You can meet many foreign students here
and most of people are very friendly.

Food is not a problem as there are many Asian
and Western restaurant available. but for me,
I did my own cooking.

Those familiar among local citizen bazaar, you
will find the day market which sell used items
such as clothes, kid toys, old coins, old furniture,
photo albums, table lamp, etc.
This day market is called "braderie".

can grab a corner of pavement and play hawker for the weekend

Factory visit to Sumitomo Metal Industries, Osaka

Sumitomo (Light) Metal Ind. was one of a few big vendors

to my former company in Japan. They supplied metal sheet that

we used to produce sleeving for automobile power steering.

The sleeves act as a coupler to join metal fitting and high pressure

hose. I was attached to Nichirin Rubber Company during our
technical training as part of my course.

Inside the Sumitomo plant, there was a huge oven facility
to process raw metal to produce steel. End products would
be steel plate and steel rod after extrusion.

The melting chamber was so big which we have to
climb the stairs up to 3 storey building to enable us
to see the operation and each process steps done to
produce steel bar.

All the visitors have to wear a fire proof uniform for safety reason.

It was a very challenging and interesting experience. The inside

room temperature was very hot and I could not image how the

worker was able to stand there on daily basis.

For Nichirin Rubber Industrial Co, it was established in 1914.

I was there in 1986 during a joint venture with Malaysian company

as I was one of the pioneer group. It was a good move by our

government to promote technical know how and to gain the

industrial expertise through " Look East Policy".

We spent six months over there doing the technical training
and learning various machine control and operation.
They have advance facilities and a very high tech

equipment to produce a zero defect components for

auto industries.

It's really an amazing experience.

Karaoke in Japan

Karaoke is a culture among the Japanese people.
Among family members, young, old people and all
walk of life in Japan are fond to have karaoke session.
Not only in their house, but it is common to find
the karaoke "heya" everywhere even in a remote
area.

As for me, i did join some occasion especially when
many of my Japanese friends invited me to their house
for dinner. I enjoyed very much when mixed and chatting
with them.
Normally, to welcome a foreigner during dinner, the host
traditionally will do the opening speech followed by self
introduction of every single guest with short history and
background. After dinner start, every one will sing alternately
in karaoke session. Most of Japanese house has a complete
karaoke set.

Visit Tokyo Japan

Ohayo-gozaimasu. Yoroshiku onegai-shimasu.

I visited Tokyo city few times during my stay
at Fukusaki village in Hyogo Prefecture. (Honshu Island).

To go to Tokyo from Fukusaki, you need to take train
to Himeiji which take less than 20 minutes.
Then from here you can go by Shinkansen (Bullet Train)
which cost you approx 15,000 Yen.
Time taken to reach Tokyo is about 3 to 3.5 hours.

I advise you to stay overnight in Tokyo to enjoy
sightseeing during day time and join the night life
activities such as karaoke, pachinko, window shopping
and etc. You can booked a travel agent to show you around
and visit the Imperial Palace plus other historic places.
.
And for me, sometime I took early train from my place
and were able to reach Tokyo by noon. Then I spent
one whole day in the city before coming back by night
Bullet Train. This way I could save on the hotel expenses
as a student, I did not have much money to spent.

But to be honest, even many of my Japanese friends
around this area were never been to Tokyo in their
lifetime.

Tokyo as any other big city, is a very much alive
especially in the night. Day time, you can go to
Ueno park in the morning for jogging then at noon
shopping at Akihabara. For young people, they prefer

My days at Himeiji Castle, Japan

My days in Himeiji City was sometime 20 years back once
I was an industrial student at Hyogo, Japan.

This is my flash back of my days in one of historic castle,
which is very famous in Japan as well as in the world.
Based on history, this castle was built in 1346 by Akamatsu
Sadanori. You are able to learn about this castle from the web
all over the net.

The most great day to visit is during Sakura Cherry Blossom
around May-June season and Golden May Festival.
At this time period you will be able to encounter many events
such as listening to Koto Music Instrument, you can
see Yatai & Matsuri celebrations and many more.

I will show you more places which I have visited in next posts.
Places such as Kobe, Nagoya, Nagasaki, Mt. Aso etc.

Let's go to Small Island of Mont St Michel, Normandy

Friends,

Here is the magic place where sea level able to rise more than 12 meter during high tide.
Most interesting is the low and high tide interval is within few hours.
This beautiful and a "Wonder World of Western" is UNESCO classified world heritage.

I came here by bus and stopped by at the station on mainland.
Should you lucky enough, the bus will go straight to the island through
small bridge if the water level is low.
Ok, once you here, you will feel very relief and your panaromic
view is big open either facing to sea or mainland. You need to
know the tide table in order to be safe especially if you need to
snap more pictures at the beach front. but it is not adviseable
as the wind is very cold.

Inside the castle, there are many shops that sells sourviniers,
cafe for food and other outlets to cater for tourist.
Please make yourselve confortable, before you start climbing
up the stairs as it will take few hours to cover.

Do come here to have a better feeling and you won't
feel any hesitation.

Welcome to Saint- Malo, Brittany

Bonjour, Monsieur.

St. Malo is very famous with her local oysters from small village of Cancale.
But I did not have time to enjoy the food due to limited resources.
Maybe will try some other time.
I have my good friend who is living in this castle.
His name is Mr. Loic. He is very rich guy for sure as
I did jokingly told him. If not how can he afford such
a grandy place here inside the ancient castle.

You can come here by TGV train from Paris.As it is a most
visited place in Brittany, you better come during weekdays
to avoid the crowd.

You can go to England from here by cruise.
Make sure you have the International passport with you.
Here is some historic data taken from France's tourist website for
your quick glance of St. Malo:-

Walled and built with the same grey granite stone as Mont St-Michel, ST-MALO was originally in the Middle Ages a fortified island at the mouth of the Rance, controlling not only the estuary but the open sea beyond. The promontory fort of Alet, south of the modern centre in what's now the St-Servan district, commanded approaches to the Rance even before the Romans, but modern St-Malo traces its origins to a monastic settlement founded by saints Aaron and Brendan early in the sixth century. In later centuries it became notorious as the home of a fierce breed of pirate-mariners, who were never quite under anybody's control but their own; for four years from 1590, St-Malo even declared itself to be an independent republic. The corsaires of St-Malo not only forced English ships passing up the Channel to pay tribute, but also brought wealth from further afield. Jacques Cartier, who colonized Canada, lived in and sailed from St-Malo, as did the first colonists to settle the Falklands – hence the islands' Argentinian name, Las Malvinas, from the French Malouins.

OK, suddently I thought to have a blog of mine.
Got no idea till lately I found a name.
Not that easy to get even a simple titile to get
a message accross.

But it is okay as long as it is for personal note.
Any name will do.
And even it can be shared among friends.

Why not give a unique title where people will
easy to remember and get updated every now
and then, Or something which will relay your
image and portray your own self.

And from one conversation below, then it is fine
to just put my name as well to the title:-

When I met a new friend one day, he asked me:
"Hello, How are you".
Then,
I said: " Zamri"
Again he asked me which quite normal for an old friend
that have forgotten my name.
"What is your name"
Then I said,

When I walked with my friends, and my friend's friend asked me.
I said:
